Reflections & Artifacts
The standard encourages teachers help student foster the consciousness of digital citizenship and understand the protection of intellectual properties of others and themselves. The prevalence of Internet and online free programs makes it even harder for students to differentiate between fair use and illegal use. The intellectual property now no longer solely refers to the text information but also contains audio, video, and any other intellectual creations. The course site artifact provides the copyright information and references clearly at the last page. Students would follow teacher’s example to protect the copyright of any materials used in the project. Also, the standard emphasizes the diverse needs of learners. To fulfill this requirement, in my course site, it’s easy to locate materials in various formats, such as a podcast, a movie, a pdf document and an interactive quiz.
Future Learning Goals
I always believe that teacher’s behavior have a significant influence on the students. Thus, in the future, I’d like to be more careful with the copyright issues in all of my creations especially for those projects shown to the students. Learners easily tend to model what they see and thus I hope my respect to the copyright would guide them to correctly use the online materials. Also, as the standard underlines the communication in an international environment and it’s something that students will face with, I’ll teach them how to behave in a multicultural condition.
