Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity
Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
- Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness
- Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources
- Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes
- Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments
Reflections & Artifacts
The standard addresses teachers’ ability in using technology tools to promote students’ innovative thinking skills, creativity and collaboration, which requires educators be familiar with various technology tools themselves. Google applications are good choices for being embedded in teaching and learning practices. The chosen artifacts contain a Google Doc document and a Google Slide document. Both of the tools help students to better communicate with their peers and meanwhile, enable them to work simultaneously on the same project. Also, in the Forum artifact, students are encouraged to reflect their understandings towards the course contents and then read and comment on others’ posts. Innovative thinking and reflection skills can be improved with the integration of Forum in class.
Future Learning Goals
I have confidence in my competence towards learning and using new technology tools but my weakness for Standard I may be the lack of teaching methodology. In the future, I would concentrate more on how to embed the tools into daily teaching practices following an appropriate manner. Technologies are helpful to promote students’ innovative thinking and collaboration only with the guide of effective instructions.
